The 9 Best Hostels in Barcelona

Best hostels in Barcelona

Barcelona is a dream for backpackers, and here I will let you know the best hostels in Barcelona. It has not only a lively culture, rich history, and stunning architecture that create a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable adventure. It also has delicious and offers an incredible party scene.

From exploring Gaudí’s masterpieces like the Sagrada Família and Park Güell to wandering through the bustling La Rambla and relaxing on beautiful beaches, there’s something for everyone.

Barcelona is my hometown. I’ve lived here for many years and invited many friends from all around the world. I confirm the energy is contagious. Staying in a hostel if you travel solo ensures you get the full experience of meeting fellow travelers and making lifelong memories.

General Info on Hostels in Barcelona

Barcelona is generally speaking an affordable city. Public transport is awesome, you can go anywhere in Barcelona or the surroundings by public transport, and it is also a very walkable city, so you can save a lot of money if you just walk.

Price: Hostel prices in Barcelona have a good quality-price ratio. They typically range from €15 to €40 per night. This varies depending on the season and the amenities offered. Bear in mind high season is July-August, Easter holidays, as well as La Mercè (city party). This party happens in the last week of September.

Location: Opt for hostels in central neighborhoods like the Gothic Quarter, Eixample, and Gràcia. If you cannot afford that location, opt for proximity to metro stations is crucial for easy exploration.

Amenities/Services: Expect free Wi-Fi in all hostels. Most of them offer also communal kitchens, social events, and sometimes even swimming pools or rooftop terraces. A few hostels go the extra mile with organized tours and free family dinners.

Staff: Hostel staff in Barcelona are usually friendly, but not always knowledgeable as they have a big turnover (this is a big city common issue). Some of them could be your best friends while visiting the city. Ask all you might need cause they can provide great local tips and recommendations.

Safety: Barcelona is generally safe, but it has a pickpocketing problem. There is no violence, thieves are smart and they will pickpocket you without you even noticing it. Therefore, I do recommend you to be aware of your belongings – specially in busy areas and the metro. For your peace of mind,  wear a cross-bag in front of you, and wear trousers with zippers so they cannot access your phone easily.
